The Savannah Desk was designed as my 2nd-year final project.
The brief for the project was to create a mindful desk to enhance the workplace. The idea was to create a fluid form that was pleasing to the hand and eye.
My research showed the benefits of nature in the workplace and how it is often separated from the user. To change this, I incorporated a planting area into the tabletop. I created multiple prototypes using cardboard and 3D printing to test how various designs functioned in different spaces.
Designed as the start of a product range inspired by different environments like cities and jungles. The final piece was handmade from African Utile hardwood. The small tree planter was incorporated into the triangular leg.
The leg and desk surfaces can be separated for transport. The table Measures 2000mm by 6500mm by 6000mm.
The desk was featured in the university end-of-year exhibition.
While working for Farlam Airframes Ltd, I developed and manufactured a coffee table.
Made from cherry and two underwing panels from a VC-10 aircraft. The VC10 panels, which inspired the shape, are painted differently on each side.
The first panel represents the planes commercial life with BOAC, and the second for when it was flying with the RAF as air re-fuelling tankers for jets.
The design incorporates moving drawers to add extra storage and functionality while giving a reason for the user to get hands-on with history.
Steam bending allows for the creation of natural forms in functional furniture.
I made two pieces around the idea of water and the Pacific Ocean.
The Wave Shelf is designed to combine closed and open storage with a smooth design. While being practical and easy to mount on walls.
The Tangle Light was designed to create passive wall-mounted light that produces a unique functional atmosphere. Using a range of tendrils to control the light flow.
I developed a sustainable way to make a range of elegant knife racks using a stock shape.
Made from 100 per cent recycled PETG plastic. Heat formed into shape.
To help expand the range, a pairing knife was created with a plastic handle matching the colours and form of the knife rack.
Using five rules developed from the aviation design process I developed an adaptable and modern side table.
Solid oak sections mirror a propellor. Clear perspex based off aircraft windows reach out from the wood to form shelves above an aluminium base.
Able to change size and number of shelves. With inbuilt storage in the base for extra shelves.
Using five rules developed from the aviation design process to test whether aviation design ideas can create better everyday products.
I created a FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) and a consumer electronic. Every element was designed and prototyped for commercial success.
B1-A Typhon - An ergonomic spray bottle made to last. Designed to be easily stored while creating a more visually appealing design.
C1-A Mohi - A charger designed to allow the user to separate the user from phone addiction. Able to charge a phone and connect remotely to its separate block, which can display the phone's information.
